May 26th, 2009 by VIP plumberIn the last month, we had three calls from clients who were very upset about the service they got from plumbers send to them by a insurance company.( and we get that quite often) There is a huge question mark on the skills of these plumbers who did this jobs. The only thing that comes to mind is this plumbing company used Street corner plumbers to do this jobs and definitely without supervision. This guys have no idea what SANS 10254 (Geyser installations) is about not to mention the art of workmanship. To go into detail on this subject is enough to make Plumbers who have pride in there occupation to get a blocked aorta. Lets face it anyone can open a tap and drink water but not anyone can provide the water in a controlled manner.
Who lost & who gained?
The street corner plumber and his employer gained because they did the job and the insurance company will pay them for the effort to just get the job done no matter what.
The second plumber gained because he came to correct the job and the client will pay him for what should have been done in the first place and assure this plumber to definitely use him him in the future.
Both the insurance company and the client lost in this deal the insurance company lost their clients trust because of the bad service they got and the extra costs they had as a result of the street corner plumber the insurance company have provided them with.
Conclusion
It is a fact that insurance companies have inspectors to follow up the work than is authorised to plumbers on their panel, but for obvious reasons this is not possible to check on each and every claim they processed. In some cases they have to rely on the the trust there is suppose to be between them and the contractor. Like all of us the insurance companies aim is to provide a excellent service to their clients in order to build a healthy relationship with the client. That is why the contractor is on their panel. In this scenario the plumber is the weakest link.
Excellent plumbers
Out in the field is much very fine and talented plumbers who have pride in what they do and are determent to stick to the rule. Most of the smaller plumbers who are in the playing field knows the job they do the basics they stick to the rule do not take shortcuts or risks. They know in order to be on demand is to get the job done right the first time the right way.
Insurance companies is major employers of plumbing contractors, the small contractor sometimes have the manpower of only three to four guys and say two vehicles but added up they have experience of twenty years now that is food for thought. But they are excluded from panels. Why could this be? one should ask! What do they have to do…… to also get a slice of the cake? They are out there proofing themselves to those who matters most…. The client!
Water crisis
April 18th, 2009 by VIP plumberWater is life not only to Humans but every living thing on our planet needs water. Not only do our Water get polluted but thousands of litres Water get wasted just in South Africa each day. Water related deseases are on the increase the lack of access to safe water continues to be a threat to human life. The question is what are we doing about it?
For a start we can get our plumbing system at home in a water friendly condition by repairing leaks on the system. make sure there is no pipes or faucets leaking inspect the toilet for leaks or a to high cistern water level causing a never ending run of water through the overflo down the drain. Close all your supply points go to your water meter it should not be counting, if it does you have a leak somewhere on your system, and needs to be identified and fixed. Remember a driping tap or pipe addup to hundreds litres of wter a week.
Do we need to save water?
When water get scarce it gets polluted at a very fast rate, which will result in a thread to human health. “To save water is not a option its a must”
Pollution of water
Water pollution has affected water quality and impacted negatively on public health, this is nomore a concern to Zimbabwe only it is a reality here with us. Some water experts will disagree on this but reality is a fact.
